The alarmist views of technology you highlight do remind me of some who view technology in education as a threat, although this seems to be juxtaposed with those who are ‘advocates’ of technology (perhaps seems to reinforce the utopian/dystopian oppositions that are cropping up in the films).
Something that struck me re-watching ‘The Cyborg’ was the portrayed power relationship between the ‘human’ and ‘machine’ (the ‘human’ choosing the name/date of birth for the ‘machine’, as if it were a ‘tool’ without agency). It reminds me of the way technology is often portrayed as a ‘tool’ in education, rather than technology and education being ‘co-constitutive of each other’ as Bayne (2015: 18) argues.
